Ex- international Etim John Essien has slammed the lengthy bans handed out to Victor Baribote and Taiwo Ogunjobi by the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The NFF announced on Monday that it has suspended the duo of Ogunjobi and Baribote from all football related activities for 10 and 15 years respectively upon the findings of an investigative panel which was set up to look into offences in which they were implicated.
Essien has, however, criticised the weight of the sanctions imposed on both men stating that it would have only been reasonable if any of them was implicated in match-fixing.
“If the decision was not for match-fixing then it is too much for both administrators,” Etim said.
He described the bans as the longest in history of Nigerian football, but added that such sanctions could have the effect of making stakeholders in football “learn their lessons”.
